Making It SewFun opened its doors in 2004 with a belief that sewing education deserved more than a one-size-fits-all approach. Not just classes — but a structured, intentional pathway that takes every student seriously and meets them where they are.

Twenty years later that belief has become something bigger. Making It SewFun is not just a sewing school. It’s a creative education hub on the South Side of Chicago — where serious practitioners and passionate teachers do meaningful work together. A purpose-driven creative community, rooted in the South Side.

Our You Can Make It® program is a structured 7-level curriculum — the only one of its kind in Chicago. It gives every student a clear, proven pathway from their very first stitch to garments they’re proud to have made. Kids, teens, and adults. Beginners and experienced sewists. All of them finding their place here.

This is not a franchise. It’s not a chain. It’s one school, built with intention, run with care, and grounded in the belief that creative education changes people. That’s what we work toward in every single class.

Sewing That Gives Back

At Making It SewFun, our commitment to the community goes beyond the classroom. Throughout the year our students take on community sewing projects — giving back to our neighborhood through the skills we’ve built together. Projects change seasonally, but the commitment stays the same.

Our youth students also participate in seasonal showcases and community events throughout the year.
